UH President Dobelle Reception
A reception for UH President Dobelle was held last night (March 6, 2003) at the Metropolitan Club in Washington, DC. The event was very successful. NCRC is especially indebted to Karen Uemoto who did a terrific job in coordinating the event despite her busy and hectic schedule. Again Karen, many, many thanks.
In addition to the President, we also met the new Chancellor, Peter Englert; Dr. Carl Vogel, Director, Cancer Research Center of Hawaii; renewed relationships with Paul Costello, VP for Communictions; Arnold Kishi, President of UH Alumni Association; Mealoha Husen, Director of Alumni Relations; and Betsy Sloane, President of the UH Foundation. Mealoha and Betsy are very experienced in fundraising, membership and marketing. I expect some solid programs arising from the Alumni Association and the Foundation.
Mr. Dobelle gave about a 15 minute recap of UH and its expanding education programs in the Pacific. ... He emphasized the need to keep the limelight on UH, the prize academic University in the Pacific basin that is the gateway to the far and middle east. ... He also discussed some of the outstanding graduates who are power brokers in the business world. ... His description of UH's marine biology program with its new research ship was fascinating as well as awesome - the ship boasts outstanding capabilities and the latest technologies. ...
Again mahalo to those who made it possible and to those who took the time to attend.
